The rest is history…………

Over forty years ago a shy and nervous young lad just out of short trousers started work for a local firm of chartered accountants. Twenty years later he started R A Smith & Co in Leigh-on-Sea with two part-time staff. Some clients of thirty five years standing are still enjoying the services of this firm, known until 1st May 2004 as Clarke Kitchiner Smith and now under the name of CKS Accountancy Limited.

Andrew Clarke

Likes to raise his eyes to the sky, mostly to look at planes but also to contemplate the issues of the moment. Underneath that quiet exterior there are still waters running deep! He’ll see clients whenever they want unless there is a Southend United game to get to! Enjoys being in business and helping clients to enjoy being in business too.

Steve Hackett

Steve been around long enough to have dealt with many different businesses. He really enjoys being involved and finds it very satisfying to help clients grow and prosper. When not wearing his accountant’s hat, Steve may be found on the water - sailing, that is! – but doing it the accountant’s way (cheaply!) by crewing for others. He likes a good singsong and is available to attend other people's parties at short notice.

Roger Smith

Roger retired on 31st January 2005 after 42 years in accountancy but is still living locally should he be needed for consultation with the firm.

David Kitchiner

David retired at the end of September 2003 but is still available should we need his in-depth knowledge of the affairs of those clients for whom he previously acted.

The Team

There are now 13 other players in the CKS team, qualified, experienced and those training for their professional exams. A good mix of friendly and hard working staff who know that ultimately it is the clients who pay their salaries and are therefore keen to please.
